Physically Active Toddler
Are you worried about your toddler who is pushing the boundaries of physical safety all the time. Worried about that he repeatedly climbs on the kitchen counter, jumps off the back of the sofa, dives down the slide etc. You can't seem to make him stop. You don’t know what should you do?
If you are facing all this the read below.
All children need lots of large-muscle play. And some need even more. Going to the local park or playground daily can help solve this problem. They need to run, jump and roll in wide open spaces as much as possible. Toddler gym programs are another idea. Check out your local Y or community centre to see what's available.
Providing these opportunities for them to exercise is only part of the solution, though. You also need to thoroughly childproof your home - and this means more than locks on the medicine cabinet and covers on electrical outlets. You may need to keep all the chairs in one room, and keep that room off limits with a gate or locked door. Cover the sharp edges of table corners and counters to prevent injury from the falls they're going to take. Use screws to fix climbable furniture, like bookshelves, to the wall. Rearrange the room to make the most dangerous furniture unavailable. Your interior design may not get the Martha Stewart or IKEA seal of approval, but it will be toddler-friendly and that's vital.
If your daredevil toddler is getting lots of physical exercise, learning how to handle his body in a gym program and living in a childproofed environment, he'll be safer and you'll be saner.
