Troubled Daughter

Teenage is often a very difficult time for mothers and even more difficult for daughters. It can be filled with internal strife, fighting and lack of sympathetic on both sides. The bond between mothers and teenage daughters is most of the time very difficult and you can only do whatever you are capable of. Teens generally insurgent, think they know everything and they know better (sometimes they do!) and want to become more and more independent. This doesn't indicate that your teens don't need or love you. Parenting is one of the most significant and demanding job many of us will undertake. Parents who have develop into anxious that their young women are not getting

The concentration and path they deserve might consider the more development and focused atmosphere of girls' boarding schools. The problems troubled girls and their families face today can be overwhelming. Parents are stressed more than ever to keep their children on the right track. Parents are feeling social pressures, pop culture; it has become almost impossible for the parents to do so in the noise and distractions of today's fast paced world. When parents start to observe their daughters making poor decisions, choosing the incorrect friends, and becoming more and more engrossed to harsh behaviors, there is hope.

Some common reasons for this problem are:

  • It has been seen quite often that parents and other adults treat girl babies differently than boy babies and this sight is quite common in our Indian culture. Study says that girls might even do less well academically when compare to the boys. The reason for that might be their interest in the attention of boys. Social pressures may be the reason for girls to focus less on math and science subjects as they are considered of as "boys" fields. But now a days its seen that girls are performing exceptionally well than boys in every field whether its academic or sports or be any job.
  • Those girls who do seem to be impacted by the existence of boys may advantage from attending all-girls schools or girls boarding schools.
  • Some girls also become irritating and troubled when they have their first period. They don’t take it as normal rather feel more and more insecure.
  • Changing hormones also play a vital role in changing behavior.
  • They might not be getting proper attention and care of their parents
  • Sudden exposure to all the things which they think as fantasy like boys, liberty, no rules and regulations in college etc etc.

As parents what can you do?

Its not necessary that only mother can be a best friend to her daughter. Some daughters are quite close to their fathers also. They share each and everything with their fathers. They both share a very special bonding.

So to handle a teen daughter is both mother’s and father’s responsibility. Some points that should be kept in mind while talking to a teen age daughter are:

  1. Listen carefully. Listen carefully what she is trying to say. Ask her if this is what she wants to tell them.
  2. Don’t give a lecture. Don’t give her lectures rather make her understand by giving examples or by telling her some stories.
  3. Talk to her about changing effects of puberty. Talk to her about the body changes that can occur during teen age. Tell her about the periods in detail.
  4. Take her out whenever you get time. Whenever you feel like you should take her for some outing. But remember that don’t start giving her lecture at that very place and don’t become a spoil sport.
  5. Talk with her about your college time. While taking a walk you can also talk about your college times and can explain what you want to say by your own story. Be positive in all what you say.
