Mothers usually don’t like their teen daughters to apply makeup where girls at this stage are very keen to use cosmetics.

The few reasons why girls are so eager to use cosmetics are:

1. At this stage teens wish to distinguish themselves from the crowd but, crucially, not too much.
2. Insecurity is a problem plaguing adolescents and the desire to be different is tempered by the fear of rejection or exclusion
3. Girls are much more willing to experiment with make-up and fragrances. This applies particularly to younger teenagers, since older teens prefer to use brands aimed at an adult audience.
4. Celebrity idols have a certain amount of influence over this group, as teenagers tend to try and emulate their favorite idols' look.
5. Another reason for teens using makeup is their desire for maturity, as they strive to appear and behave as if they were older than they really are.

Now the question arises that whether you should allow your daughter to apply make up or not?

The answer to this completely depends on you. Also your understanding with your daughter matters a lot.

If you are comfortable with your daughter’s make up then be sure that she uses good brand products and not the local ones which may badly affect her skin. Be sure that she is not overdoing it.

Also take care that she is in no peer pressure for applying makeup.

But if you are not comfortable with her makeup then don’t hesitate in talking to her. Communication is always the best key. Talk to her and ask her patiently that why does she want to apply makeup. Listen to her. Let her put her points.

When she is done tell her what do you think about cosmetics. Put your points and give her very clear reasons. Remember don’t shout at her and don’t pressurize her for anything.
