First, you must have had intercourse or intimate genital contact within the last several months. You cannot get pregnant from oral sex, anal sex or hand jobs. Second, the chance of pregnancy rises dramatically if you are not using birth control.

The most common symptom of pregnancy is a missed period. However, it is definitely possible to miss a period and not be pregnant. It is also possible to have a period (or a small amount of bleeding that you think is a period) and still be pregnant.

Other pregnancy symptoms include breast tenderness, bloating and nausea. Symptoms are not reliable for diagnosing pregnancy, however, because many pregnancy symptoms are also premenstrual symptoms.

Then chance of getting pregnant in any one cycle is 20%. That means that if you have had unprotected intercourse around the time of ovulation, there is a 20% chance that you are pregnant.

Keep in mind, the only way to know if you are pregnant is to check a pregnancy test. Remember pregnancy tests will not be accurate before the day that you expect to get your period.
