Pregnancy Belly Cast
A pregnancy belly cast is the perfect way to preserve the beauty of your pregnant. This stomach mold will be cherished by your baby later in life.
Creating a pregnancy belly cast is the perfect way to capture the beauty of a mother's pregnant form. Taking less than an hour, this an easy project best accomplished with the assistance of a trusted loved one. Most mothers won't believe how they are truly shaped, but plaster doesn't lie!
The pregnancy activity
One creates a pregnancy belly cast by applying layers of plaster strips to the torso of mom's pregnant body. Once the strips have set, the casting will hold her shape. A perfect sculpture will be created of how mom looked during her pregnancy.
Preparation
The materials to create a belly cast can be puchased alone or as a kit from many online retailers. The materials include:
- Casting material
- Lubricant (so the casting material does not adhere to the stomach)
- Drop cloth
- Gloves (non-latex)
- Sanding screen
A drop cloth is placed under mom and the area to be casted. Lubricant is applied to mom's torso. Casting material is mixed with water and applied to mom by a trusted friend. Once the cast is created, a sanding screen is used to rub away imperfections from the outside of the cast. The cast can be painted or decorated to fit the interior of the nursery or home.
Variations
Despite using a sanding screen to smooth perfections, a pregnancy belly cast will not have a perfectly smooth surface. However, creating a second mold of the belly cast interior will create a perfectly proportioned cast of how mom's belly really appeared!
A belly cast will become a treasure for the child a mother is bearing. Seize the opportunity when you can, because you won't be able to recreate this after your birth!
