From Crawling To Walking
Your baby will spend his first year making amazing discoveries. And do you know which of them
he might find most thrilling? Figuring out how to get from point A to point B, all by himself.
Babies learn to crawl and walk at their own pace. And that's perfectly natural. So let's say your
baby decides to start at around five months. He takes a little roll from his back to his tummy. Then,
perhaps inadvertently, kicks out his legs. He looks up and, to his astonishment, he finds himself
closer to where Daddy is sitting. Talk about feeling the wind in your hair. There's no turning back
for him now.
At Six Months
At six months, your baby will probably be sitting up. Either with your help, or by leaning forward
and putting his hands on the floor. Any time now, he'll figure out how to "pivot." Laying on his
stomach, he'll kick his legs vigorously to move himself around in a circle.
At Seven Months
Your baby will probably be preparing to make that big leap, to the world
of crawling. In the beginning, many babies' arms are stronger than their legs, and it takes them a
while to learn to coordinate all their limbs. So don't be surprised if you see your little one
scoot across the room using only his arms to propel himself forward.
At Eight Months
At eight months, try standing your baby up next to a piece of furniture, so he can hold on.
He'll probably be able to stay there on his own. And that's when he'll discover the phenomenal view.
In no time, he'll figure out how to pull himself up to a standing position whenever he chooses.
At Nine Months But, Hey, he might think, What's the point of just standing around? That's
when he'll start "cruising" the room. Moving from one supporting piece of furniture to another.
At Eleven Months
Come eleven months, some babies are obsessed with learning to walk.
Practicing tirelessly. Whooping with delight when they manage a step or two. Crying in frustration when
they tumble to the floor. Then, in the blink of an eye, getting right back up on the horse.
At One Year
Amazingly, your little baby is evolving into a toddler. Toddling proudly from point A to point B on
his own two feet. His legs spread wide apart in characteristic toddler style. And his head held high.
